Explore Linden.

A small bauxite town wrapped by the Demerara River and the rainforest of the Upper Demerara-Berbice region. Quieter than Georgetown, closer to nature, and full of small, real places worth a slow afternoon.

Nature

Kara Kara Blue Lake

A striking turquoise lake carved from a former bauxite pit, now reclaimed by the forest. Calm, otherworldly water with shaded picnic spots along the bank. Bring a swimsuit, a hat, and a long lens.

Waterfront

The Demerara River

The wide brown river that defines Linden. Hire a small boat for a slow afternoon tour, or settle in at one of the waterside restaurants for grilled fish and a quiet sunset.

Linden Municipal Market

Where Linden actually shops. Pyramids of mangoes, peppers, ground provisions, fresh bread, and locally made craft. Go early on a Saturday morning for the full energy.

Useful Info

Practical things, briefly.

The local currency is the Guyanese Dollar (GYD). Cash is preferred at small shops, markets, and taxis. Major hotels and supermarkets accept Visa and Mastercard. ATMs are available in central Linden — Republic Bank and GBTI both have branches a short drive from I‑ARK.

Taxis are the default. Routes within Linden are short and inexpensive — agree on the fare before you get in, or ask us to call a trusted driver. For day trips, a private hire (full or half day) is the most comfortable option.

Linden is warm and humid year-round (24–32°C). Light, breathable layers, sunscreen, and a packable rain shell will cover you. The rainy seasons run roughly May–July and November–January — expect short, intense showers rather than all-day grey.

Linden is relaxed and friendly. Standard travel sense applies: keep valuables out of sight, use registered taxis at night, and greet shopkeepers and neighbors warmly — it goes a long way here.
